Bad News For Nutella Lovers…
Nutella lovers you are not going to like this at all…
There is a crisis at hand… There could be a shortage of Nutella on us soon, with poor weather destroying hazelnut crops.
Around 70 per cent of the world’s hazelnut crop is grown near Turkey’s Black Sea coast, but this year’s crop was heavily hit with hail storms and frost in late March. The price of the hazelnuts has subsequently skyrocketed by more than 60 per cent.
Hazelnuts are now costing a massive $10,500 USD per tonne, compared with $6,500 USD per tonne in February, according to the Guardian.
Ferrero, who produce Ferrero Rocher chocolates are also behind our favourite hazelnut Nutella spread buys 25 per cent of the world’s supply of hazelnuts! At this rate we think the price of Nutella will skyrocket or there will definitely be a shortage…
Our advice is start stocking up everyone!
